Your family’s summer road trip to Walt Disney World is just around the bend, and perchance you’re beginning to tell apart with the Clark W. Griswold family, from “National Lampoon’s Summer Vacation.” Then again, with a little planning, possibly your journeying won’t be a comedy of errors. Head down to the local video store, rent a copy of “Summer Vacation,” take delight in the family’s visit to Roy Wally World, and learn how NOT to drive cross-country. Afterwards, you may find a good deal of of these tips useful:
Have a place to crash. Nobody likes a late-night motel hunt, so if you reserve in front you’ll be the family hero. If you’d rather keep your schedule flexible, manufacture a list of substitute stopping points that offer decent meals and lodging (don’t forget the phone numbers). Phone in front for the duration of the afternoon, once you have a better idea of how the day is shaping up, to be sure there’s a room waiting for you.
Keep the kids busy. Many families fetch sufficient games and actions to last the entire journey, and some invest in DC-powered TV/VCR combos, or portable DVD players. Books-on-tape (or CD) are another great idea. The Harry Potter books are more than sufficient for a two-day journeying in each direction.
Get tuned up. Nothing is more pricey or discouraging and hindering than a breakdown when you’re far from home. Service your car before you leave — check the tires, brakes, transmission and air conditioning, change the oil, and top-off all fluids. Take extra care if you’re driving your motor home or pulling a trailer — schedule a checkup assorted weeks in advance, just in case you need a special part.
Be safe. Let’s not fool ourselves. Driving is still more dangerous than flying. Improve your family’s odds by switching drivers often and journeying no more than 500 miles per day. 24-hour marathon drives may get you there sooner, but you’ll compensate for it in peril and exhaustion. And face it, after a high-energy Disney vacation, the last thing any individual needs is a drowsy driver behind the wheel on the way home.
Do AAA. Make the most of your AAA membership and use it is travel discounts, the latest news on highway construction, all the maps you may perchance want, and their widely known and esteemed Trip-Tik route planning service. If you don’t have a membership, a long car trip is a good pardon to get one.
Have fun on the way. Why put your vacation on hold until you reach Disney? Plan visits to nearby points of interest. Just what roads do lead to Orlando, and what are the sights?
East Coast travelers commonly cruise south on I-95, switching to I-4 near Daytona. Popular side trips along the way include Washington D.C., Williamsburg, VA, Cape Hatteras, NC, Charleston, SC, and the Daytona/Cape Canaveral area in Florida.
Drivers a bit further inland (to as far west as Pittsburgh) pick routes that include I-77, I-79 and/or I-81, at last joining I-95 in South Carolina. For a great side route for history and nature buffs, stay on I-81 all the way to Knoxville, TN, where it joins I-75 for the march through Georgia. National Parks and Civil War battle web sites dot the route from Gettysburg, PA down through the Shenandoah Valley (did you recognise Disney once wanted to build a theme park here?), and on through the Smoky Mountains.
I-75 figures into the plans of closely any person from Ohio to Chicago, St. Louis and beyond, as closely each preferent route merges with I-75 before it reaches Georgia. The Chattanooga Tennessee/Northern Georgia area has a potpourri of interesting natural and historic sites, and it’s a perfective choice for your half-way stopover. Those further south and west inevitably gravitate towards I-10, which hugs the Gulf coast until it, too, meets I-75 in Florida (who may protest a stop in New Orleans?) Once on I-75, Disney World-bound travelers head south past Ocala, Florida to Florida’s Turnpike, which cuts southeast towards Orlando and I-4.
Here’s hoping that your road trip is the finest kind of adventure!

Trip wish list By Thomas Stover This is the popular NG high quality publication. With it is huge pictures and little maps, it is easy to add a great deal of places to one’s travel wish list and to relish memories of places already visited. For each destination, there’s a summary of driving distance, recommendations of when to go, and a planning reference to a web-site. The book is coordinated into subsections like “mountains,” “sea & shore,” etc.
I down-graded my “stars” for two reasons:
(1) There is no over-all way to look at a world map and see where these trips are located. You may use the index at the back of the book but that’s not closely so helpful as a visual map would be.
(2) Since this is a “driving” reference, one would think it would give a heap of clue as to the availability of rental cars and/or motorbikes. Perhaps the writers didn’t want their book to become speedily out-dated. But other than referring to something like Lonely Planet publications, the reader is left marveling how he could make galore of these trips.
As usual, Amazon made the buy easy and inexpensive.

Gorgeous Photos! By Char I purchased this book as a Christmas present for my dad. We have a love for travel, and this book proved to be a source of inspiration for us. The selective information with regards to each of the destinations was helpful and the photos were beautiful.

Beautiful drives! By A. Smith I purchased two of these for Christmas gifts. I looked through one of them (don’t tell!). It is so beautiful! If you never take the drives, the pictures are worth it! And it is packed with suggestions. My nephew loved it and is already making plans! I would commend this book!

Why Democrats and Obama refuse to go after these two pension scams and Social Security Scams? How many American Tax payer want to fund Union Pension jet setters who take tax payer funds out of the country? How many Americans want to keep paying taxes for people collecting more than one Social Security Benefit? Why are the politicians not going after these frauds to balance the budget?
Nicolas
Two of these scams 1) pensioners emigrating to foreign land, Mexico alone recieve $600 Billion per yr from 9,900,000 pensioners (every year) that USA Taxpayers have to fund. 2) 60,000,000 fraudant social security benefactors (21% of all SS #) compromised represent est. 60,000,000 x 2(dual SS#) x $2000/month x 12 month per year = $2.88 Trillion Fraud ($2,880,000,000,000) Budget balanced going after just two federal government fraud cases.
Louis
How to balance the budget going after 3 government scams? 1) LIHEAP (Gao-10-621) Audit of 7 states found 260,000 invalids, 11,000 deceased, 725 prisoners, 1,100 fed gov workers,2) AARP pg 52 Sept 2010 and Mexican Census 2008 (FBI Demographics and CIA Factbook S. America Emigration Pensioners) 9,900,000, 3) SSA Audit 60+ million (60,000,000) Americans with more than one Social Security Card. Just these three fraud represent more than $1 Trillion in losses ($1,000,000,000,000) Budget Bal.

VinnyLT9000, many of the Government and Union employees with unfunded pensions and entitlement were not around when Wilson was President (1856-1924) and when Nelson Aldrich was in Senate (1841-1915? These two people you sighted predate many of the laws that created the current “UNFUNDED ENTITLEMENT” programs. Heck these people predate the Stock Market crash of 1931-1932, they died 8-16yrs before the stock market crash 1931! Stop distorting history with propaganda!
Francesca
VinnyLT9000, prove to me you know how to read. Find the Housing reconstuction act law that Obama voted for and forced fannie and freddie to purchase NINJI (No Income No Job Interest “only” loans? What is the law guarantee pension increase to fed workers 3%-7% when the economy is tanking? What law did Obama vote for to increase Fed pay 3%-7% when the rest of the economy is tanking? What law were voted for by Obama in Ill. that cause that state to have fiscal crisis?
Jeanie
VinnyLT9000, can you please tell me what Mr. Obama’s jobs were prior to presidency. Was it the US Senate from 2004 to 2008? Prior to that he was in Illinois Senate from 1997-2004? Which state has the most unfunded entitlement? Which fed laws were passed when Obama was in Senate from 2004-2008 that are unfunded entitlements? Which fed law cause housing to grow by 3% when population grow by 1.2% when Obama was in the Senate? Can you read rather than tweet democratic propaganda?
Jeffry
Yes I do blame this president and democrats. Remember Democrats controlled the house and senate for more than 6 years! Learn to read! Many of the real estate market failure can be placed on freddie and fannie under democratic congressional mandates, and increase in government pension under democratic congress and state, counties and municipal democratic government unfunded pension spending. Please learn to read, CBO, GAO, OCC treas, GASB, SEIU and AFL-CIO projections. Learn to read!
Fletcher
are you seriously blamming the presidents for the national debt? pick up your old 12th grade econ book. Theres something called a central bank that loans out money to the country at interest(debt). It is impossible to come out of debt when every dollar produced by the bank has interest attached to it because thats where the money comes from. so its a never ending cycle of debt. Blame Senator Nelson Aldrich For implementing the Federal Reserve Act that was signed by Woodrow Wilson.
Marcelino
Question: Do you still want to give money to “PUBLIC – Government Union Workers” who expatriate to other countries to retire taking every last penny of TARP gov. pensioner MEXICO? These are the same people who shut down your parks, took money away from young teachers, took money away from childrens lunch programs, took money away from retarded people, took money away from highway funds, took money away from elderly care, but did not touch their pensions?
Ida
Let’s use AARP data for just two cities with 60,000 USA Government workers retiring in Puerto Vallarta and Panama City. 60,000 x $60,000 per yr pension and healthcare benefits = $3,600,000,000.00 per year tax payer funded pension money leaving USA because of Government Union Workers retiring outside of USA in just 2 cities. Mexican Census in 2008, 9,900,000 USA expatriate living on Pension emigrated to Mexico. 9,900,000 x $60,000 per yr = $594 billion ($594,000,000,000 – Entire TARP Spending)
Agnes
AARP – pg 52, Sept 2010, Recommend 5 Retirement outside of USA. AARP an organization fighting to keep pensions, entitlements and SSA for elderly recommending purchasing house outside of USA for retirement. Puerto Vallarta, AARP, brag has 50,000 USA and Panama has thousands of USA expatriates on “PENSION”. Only Government and Unions have PENSIONS. UNIONs are shipping billion per year out of USA and purchasing the most expensive item “A HOUSE” outside of USA. Why Stimulus Don’t Work for USA!
Sherman
few cared before
Pablo
It would be a little more accurate if it showed the congresses D or R in more detail.
Thanks good video.
Paula
You lying piece of shit, go get ***** by bear and die.
Krista
The core reality about Federal, State, County, Municipal government and Union workers are to protect their pensions. Everything they suggest as law have component of dumping “UNFUNDED MANDATES” onto the tax payers. Remember Government workers pensions are broke, they need your vote to dump the debt onto your tax bill! Government Workers do not pay Social Security Tax, they opt out and go into a separate pool, but every president and congress raided SSA. Gov Workers do not pay Pension Insur.
Addie
Have anyone determined the reason “Public – Government Workers” Healthcare and pension costs are out of control because the entitlements, pension and healthcare payment to multiple wives, childrens from multiple marriages, and multiple partners that were never accounted for in the actuarial charts? Another scam to pay entitlements, pensions and healthcare to people who never delivered any service to government or the people.
Alexander
If someone wants a divorce or be gay, it’s ok with me. When someone wants to have multiple wifes and children and *** partners, then fold all these people one the tax payers sholders with benefits and entitlements and pensions, …well that’s a different story. The question that need to be asked is why are childrens lunch programs getting cut, why are retarded childrens funds getting cut, why are poor people funds getting cut and GOVERNMENT WORKERS GETTING MORE and PENSIONS GOING UP!
Janine
Another Pension Scam! Government Workers follow USA marriage statistics (divorcerate org), then 50% government workers have more than one family that is collecting benefits. These people are getting married and divorces on the tax payers money by placing their families on their entitlement plans. Remember most of these people never worked for government and never contributed to their entitlements. *** rights just fold more people defined as husbands and wives onto the pension and entitlement.
Boyd
Imagine if these 60 million frauduant SS# people registered to vote. They can elect anyone they wish with the aid of a fraudulant government.
Francis
40 million people have more than one person on a SS#. If they were collecting benefits then estimate $2,000 per month x 40 million x 2 = $160 billion per month fraud. Annually $160 Billion x 12 = 1.92 Trillion in fraud!! That’s almost 2 x the entire value of the Canadian Exchange! Look no farther than your local government to discover the biggest frauds! 21+% of SSA data compromised – FRAUD Government FRAUD!
Al
When 60+ million Social Security Numbers out of 280 million or 21% of the data is compromised; don’t you think there might be fraud involved. Greater than 1 in 5 Social Security Number compromised, 20 million people with more than one SS# could be collecting multiple benefits. Estimate $2,000 per month x 20 million x 1.5 SS# = $60 billion per month fraud or $720 billion per yr fraud. That means the entire TARP fund can disappear into this fraud alone!
Nadia
Here is another government mess, Social Security number. There are 280 million social security numbers. 20 million people have more than one SS#, 40 million people have more than one person associated with one SS#, 100,000 Americans have 5 or more SS# associated with their name, 27,000 SS# have 10 or more people on one number. Talk about fraud in the making and utter stupidity in handling the key to $Trilions in benefits per yr! Government Fraud!
Jerrold
Demographics is working against the American worker who demand anything free from government. Buying your own healthcare insurance – one please. Free government healthcare = Working Tax payer owe = Their Healthcare insurance + government workers healthcare insurance + poor persons healthcare insurance + inflation (1+Inflation)^10yr bond + Cost of Living increase (1+CPI)^10 yr bond + Raiding Social Security (Insult to Injury Tax of Gov charging tax payer interest and more tax on money taken) +
Janelle
Someone asked me why government “Free Give-Away Programs” cost so much? Look at the labor force (0.9% annual growth 04-09, cbo doc 11691), compared with 10%+ growth in retirees, number of tax payers to non-tax contributors (50% of people do not contribute in taxes – gov workers largest non-tax payer, Read OCC treas, FBI Demographics, USA Census), Interest, Cost of Living increase gov worker, One Free $1000 to you and you pay $1,000+ gov worker $1,000 + $1,000x(1+i)^10 + $1,000 poor + etc.
Kara
In the case of USA government and non-stimulative effect of TARP. Go read CBO – Congressional Budget Office report doc11659 “Federal Debt and the Risk of a Fiscal Crisis” pg 3/8, “Crowding Out of Investment”. Federal borrowing in the open market effectively took money away from all Americans and used it to transfer debt! No stimulative effect – ZERO! The Pew Center on the States “The Trillion Dollar Gap – Underfunded State Retirement System etc. $3.35 Trillion in annual payout 08, short!
