5One of the best books I’ve read this year
By Skyflyer
When a friend gave me a copy of this book I almost didn’t read it. I had never heard of LaMontagne or Snyder and was anxious to read the fourth Harry Potter book which I had just purchased the day before. He made me read the prologue and firstborn couple of chapters, which I did. The book grabbed me from the very original page, and by the time Rodney and Aimee were pulled into the land of Daak I knew that Harry Potter would just have to wait. I was reading something much better.

From the moment they arrived in Daak until their last battle with the evil sorceress Haeron, I was engrossed. The story was action-packed and the characters a lot of of the most believable I’ve read in a long time. I laughed out earsplitting at the Ward and held my breath for the duration of the entire waterfall sequence. LaMontagne and Snyder made me feel emotions like few writers can. I scarcely ever re-read a book, but I know I’ll be picking this one up again.

5Great New Book for Children and Parents
By Patricia P. Mouton
Reminiscent of the classic The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, this children’s novel is a real page-turner with a surprise in each chapter to keep a young reader zooming through it. As must be the case in a well-written fantasy, the major characters are drawn very realistically with a plucky hero and, evenly important, exceedingly strong heroines. Adding to the literary quality, mythic elements of Arthurian legend and The Odyssey are echoed in the text. This book is an great read for children and their parents as well. The depth is such that assorted topics of discussion present themselves. What are the possible aftermaths of judging another only by his appearance? When is it adequate for the purpose to rebel versus authority? Can a person be both good and evil?

5Surprised
By Charles Westchester
I have long been a fan of fantasy and science fiction but commonly keep out of the way of those that I feel are “young adult”. So, when my niece coerced me into reading this book, I was delighfully amazed by how good it actual was.

The characters are well-developed and portray a morality that has been missing in the genre since the Wizard of Oz.

The writers pull no punches to suit the politically correct. This is a tale of good versus evil, of tenderness and brutality, of dedication and betrayal. But the scenes, while very well detailed, are not filled with the gore or the kitsch that is the trap of all new authors.

This is a classic story in the classic sense.

Buy it, read it, take delight in it. I did.
