very convenient

There is a huge variety of bits and they are all magnetical. The case is very durable along with the screwdriver that comes with it. The problem is that the bit tips are very weak and bend REALLY easy. I understand that you should be gentle while using small bits like this, but these tips just hardly have the strength to take out commercial screws and they bend way to easily. They should have coated the tips in something stronger. I probably wouldn’t recommend these to a friend.

Not for serious computer repair

I bought these tools to remove the screws from a hard drive on a dell notebook. A local computer shop wanted $60 to do the job. The screws are very small phillips head. One of the phillips head tools in this set was small enough, but it couldn’t get a good “bite” on the screw. I tried one of the small flat head tools. I twisted that tool. So its lost.

However, I ended up draw filing the original phillips head tool so that it didn’t drop so deep into the screw. That worked! These tools did save me almost $50. I would say they are good for light duty work. Good for a hobbist, but not for a lot of serious work.

Ever Repetitive Bruce Weber

I thought this book would be an interesting concept. The cover alone is gorgeous. Bruce Weber doing a photo book on fine jewelry. Although the book starts off promising enough: Bruce shooting the jewelry on naked beefcake and cheesecake, the book unfortunately slowly but surely goes downhill. The problem with Bruce Weber is that he does nothing new. It is always pictures of naked men and pictures of his friends. Must we see more pictures of Cy Twombly, his dogs, the Clemente’s? We have seen this done too many times. And yes, he does put in things that have absolutely nothing to do with Cartier. This book really is for the Bruce Weber fan. It leaves the Cartier fan confused, wanting more, and ultimately let down. I was a Bruce Weber fan in the early 80s when he was exciting and fresh. My adoration died in the 90s. Now it is just cheese to me. This book needed an ironfisted editor to protect the name of Cartier and put out something worthy of the name Cartier. I did order the Cartier in America / San Francisco Moma exhibit book at the same time. THAT was fabulous! Get that one instead!

half-baked gem

I call it half-baked because it seems three books in one and none fulfill it’s duty. First, I thought, a Cartier book of jewelry in models or settings that will have Mr. Weber’s touch. Sorry! It started like that but doesn’t delivers (a better example is Miss Vanessa Von Swetsinger book). Then, it seems that it will be a book of celebrities telling juicy gossip about their experiences buying or “borrowing” Cartier baubles. Sorry! Nothing new there. Then Mr. Weber adds his own version of what this book should be. Big Mistake! Its like Twiligth Zone meets Mr. Rogers. If you are like I, that collects jewelry books only consider this book if you have to have Everything Cartier has published (or you are a big fan of Mr. Weber). If not, save the bucks for another golden calf.

Nice try, but…flimsy, cheap, non-functioning… DONT BUY

I read the mixed reviews on this product but decided to buy it anyway – I figured the price was so low, I was willing to accept some hiccups and work-arounds. But after fooling around with it for quite a while, I gave up and sent it back. It was useless. It really is a piece of junk, and here’s why:

1) The wooden case fell apart – the packaging it was shipped in (from the manufacturer) was in perfect condition, which means (to me) the factory inserted a broken box into the package. If it had been damaged in shipment, I assume the factory box would have been damaged. I read several other reviews warning that the box would fall apart. It did. Seems to be not just bad luck with a particular order, but a systemic problem with the factory.

2) The nuts/bolts that hold the wrench together were loose/missing. I found a loose nut in the packaging and was able to re-assemble the wrench. I realize this is a super-cheap wrench, but I would hope it would break/fall apart AFTER I started using it, and not because of abysmal assembly at the factory.

3) The number/variety of pins advertised is incorrect; 2 out of 4 sets of pins were identical, which limited the types of cases which could be opened. Again, a factory problem. I picture drunk people on the line just grabbing a handful of random pins and inserting them into the package. Turns out the size/shape of the pins I would have needed were not included.

4) The pin sockets were not properly sized to accept and hold the pins. One socket would only release its pin when I forcibly pulled on it with pliers. The other socket wouldn’t hold the pin at all; 2 of 3 pin sockets were so loose that I couldn’t apply pressure to unscrew the case w/o the pins falling out.

5) The thumb-screws to adjust the width of the arms/pins would not adequately allow adjustment or tightening. As soon as I let off the thumb screw, the pressure released. I would have to hold both screws with my fingers to keep constant pressure; this was difficult since I needed other fingers to hold the loose pins in place.

So even if you buy this with very low expectations (as I did) for that occasional use once or twice a year, this is NOT worth the effort (even though the price is great). It just doesn’t work. I plan to research and buy a quality wrench and not fool with this worthless junk.

Can be made to work

Since the exact same wrench is sold by numerous vendors at $5-20, I got the cheaper one. As received, the exterior packaging was intact and undamaged. Both the top and bottom pieces of one end of the wooden storage box were broken free at the glue joints of wooden case and were loose inside the packaging. I re-glued the pieces to the box. The sets of pins that engage the watch case come in sets of three. I believe these are: Large round, small round, large chisel and small chisel. Both my chisel shape pins sets were the large size (no narrow chisel-end set) Because of the broken end of the wood case, one of the chisel shaped case pins was missing and had apparently escaped the exterior packaging in shipment. But I did get possibly an ‘extra’ set of the small round pins installed in the wrench. If I need a narrow chisel, I will try grinding down three of the larger ones and then use two large with one narrow for the large set.
The wrench itself was a bit loose. The side plates did not clamp the pin holder bases snugly and allowed the holders a lot of movement that could easily disengage the pins from the watch case in use and damaging the case surface. I disassembled the wrench and shortened the plastic spacers between the side plates, with a few wipes across sandpaper, until the pin holders were held just snug. While it was disassembled, flattened one slightly bent side plate with a couple hammer taps. Re-assembled, the wrench adjustment is smooth, the pin holders tight enough not to wobble and the adjustments stay where set during use without holding the adjustment wheels. Plenty good enough for non-commercial use. I am satisfied
This may seem a lot of work to produce a usable wrench, but writing this probably took longer than all the work. Making one from scratch would probably cost me over $30 in materials and hours of design, fitting and assembly. I’ll make back the less than $6 cost of this item (prime 2-day shipping- no cost) the next time I don’t have to drive 20 miles to change a battery (also available thru Amazon).
Should have ordered a case vise at the same time, but will probably just make a maple one like ASIN: B000RB1XNA .

It does the job.

If you have an expensive watch, get a professional, otherwise this will do the job for you for all those occasions you need to replace batteries for your watches. Just be sure to snap the bits in the slots. If you don’t snap them, you’ll think the bits don’t fit. Make sure the bits have a firm grasp before turning to open the watch case so that you won’t scratch up your watch. It is what I’ve expected for 10 bucks.

Misunderstood Caudillo Roland H Ebel

Wrist watches are elegant, portable and convenient. They make life posing no difficulty for those of us who have an obsession with keeping in front of time and keeping up with the every day busy schedules. The Cartier Story

The name Cartier is synonymous with luxury, quality, and style. Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, the company became famous global for it is design and production of pretty jewelry and opulent objets d’art. A royal commission in 1904 made Cartier a provider to Europe’s Crowned Heads of State and led England’s King Edward VII to describe Louis Cartier, grandson of the founder, as the jeweler of Kings, the King amongst jewellers.

By the early 20th century, Cartier had expanded it is collection to include watches. At a time when pocket watches were still considered de rigueur for the discerned gentleman, Cartier helped popularize the wristwatch, making it a bold fashion statement for men and women as well as a status symbol amidst the well-to-do. Louis Cartier is credited with creating the initial men’s wristwatch, the Santos, in 1904. He formulated and named the watch for his client and friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who necessitated a device that would grant him to read the time without taking his hands off the controls of his airplane.

Other classic designs followed, including Cartier’s signature timepiece–the Tank–which debuted in 1917 for the duration of the First World War and was inspired by the tough new war machine the Americans introduced to the fighting in Europe. Cartier’s introductory water-resistant watch was named after the Pasha of Marrakesh, who requested that Cartier construct watch that he could wear while in his swimming pool and not lose track of time.
